Our Story
American Made Farm Sanctuary is a small, family-operated farm sanctuary in beautiful Petaluma, California.
Stable Acres, the current site of the sanctuary, was purchased in 2007, and originally intended to be a boarding facility, taking in the occasional rescue, as Jodi had done all her life. As time went on, the rescues arrived faster and faster, growing to the now over 150 animals, at any given time.
With so much excitement around the property, it soon became a hub for friends, family, and neighbors to visit. Seeing how much people loved to interact with the animals, and with the ever-growing needs of the sanctuary residents, farm tours became open to the public.
Almost all funding currently comes from farm tours, which are available year-round, Monday-Saturday. The funds go directly to the care and needs of the sanctuary residents. This includes feed, shelter, veterinary care, training, and enrichment. Day-to-day maintenance of the sanctuary is provided by the Richardson family, as well as by a small group of volunteers. While tour funds do not typically cover the full care of the sanctuary residents, it is the reason that the farm is able to function at the capacity it can today.
Initially privately funded, a boarding client stepped in to register the sanctuary as a publicly funded non-profit (501c3). It has held that status since 2019.
Beyond animal care, the Richardson family is devoted to community education and support. Opportunities for animal interactions provide joy and entertainment, while also educating children and adults alike about the often complex care needs of livestock as pets. Many resources are also available for residents of the surrounding area, who are facing difficult situations with their beloved animals.
While the goal of many animal sanctuaries is to one day not need to exist, American Made Farm Sanctuary is here for the safety and well-being of farm animals, until that day comes.
